    MISSION STATEMENT.

The Cork Koryukan is proud to be the first Karate academy in Ireland to offer a practical and theoretical programme in the study of Karate Do. Our program is unique in that it offers a wide range of studies along side physical training Bun Bu Ryo Do* /文武両道 [The twin paths of the pen & sword

(Bun Bu Ryo Do is an ancient and underlying precept which encourages physical fitness, intellectual study and moral education in the fighting arts. Well-schooled learners of the fighting arts exemplify this underlying principle it in their general attitude, daily behaviour and personal character.)

The  program will initially explore the following aspects of Karate Do, Kobudo & Jujutsu:

•Historical background and philosophical roots of Karate, Kobudo & Jujitsu

•In-depth study of the fighting arts of Okinawa

•Karate Theory & Practice, Anatomy & Physiology, Sports Injury Management, Personal Development, Communication Skills, Psychology and Ethics .

How Karate can also be learned/imparted as a provocative alternative to conventional methods of physical fitness and stress management. Learning how to respond dispassionately to unwarranted aggression requires self-empowerment. Such training promotes an inner-calm and, where conflict exists, helps restore a natural balance to personal and professional relationships

It has long been theorised that through the study of Karate people develop a measurable sense of accomplishment and a mastery of mind over body, contributing to greater self-esteem. Through the teacher-student relationship the Karate student embarks on a voyage of self-discovery and learns the importance of disipline, respect and regard for others.
